Nicky shortlisted for Proud to Care Award

We're super proud of our Nicky for being shortlisted for Hidden Treasure at the Proud to Care Awards.  Take a look at her two nominations below and you'll soon see why.

First nomination
Nicky makes the best food... case closed. Nicky leads our catering team in the provision of an extensive menu promoting choice, reminiscence and nutrition.

Nicky runs our kitchen effectively demonstrating strong leadership and effective management skills, she prepares seasonal menus for our residents by seeking their requests and considering the nutritional requirements that they have. Nicky makes it her mission to find out what each of our residents' favourite foods are and seeks to incorporate this into their dining experience.

Nicky is happiest when she is out and about, mixing with our residents and contributing towards making them giggle, as a "feeder" she is successful in pleasing even the most picky eater!

Nicky has recently created an entirely separate dysphagia menu for our residents with a compromised swallow, she offers choice and uses moulds to present the dishes in a recognisable and professional manner.
Nicky is a strong voice in our seasonal activities, taking the helm at our annual summer BBQ and often playing the star role in our themed food days.

Nicky's passion and enthusiasm for her role and our residents shines through all that she is. Without her, many of our parties would have been quieter affairs....any excuse for a crazy costume.

Nicky is well respected by our residents and their families and is a valued member of our team who ensures that nobody goes hungry at Benoni.

​Second nomination
Nicky has been part of the Benoni family for the past five years. She has a lovely rapport with the residents, encouraging those who struggle to eat and working with them to offer something nutritious and delicious. Nicky has worked hard to develop a separate menu for our residents with dysphagia, using moulds to improve the way that meals are presented to these individuals, and also ensuring residents with specific dietary requirements can still have birthday cake. One particular resident with dysphagia nominated Nicky for Employee of the Month for making the best mince pies she's ever had. So much of what Nicky does goes unnoticed but it really is about the little things.

We'll be watching the live stream on 19 September with eager eyes ready to see if Nicky brings the award home. We certainly think she deserves it. Have a great time at the shindig, Nicky!
