Why work at Benoni?

We spoke to various members of the team about how the organisation has supported their own personal and professional development. Here's what they had to say.

I'm currently studying Level 3 Health & Social Care. It's fantastic to build on my knowledge and tailor my practice to individual needs. It means we can offer so much more to residents.

I came on as a carer and now I'm a student nurse. I wouldn't get that opportunity anywhere else. I've learned loads and it opens up so many doors. I get the chance to put clinical skills into practice, including end of life care. Everyone is encouraged to do stuff like that which is great.

I'm progressing in my career here. I'm currently doing my Level 3 Lead in Adult Social Care and after completing that I plan to move up to Level 4. It gives me more knowledge so I can provide the best care. I'm given time for meetings, training, and to complete my workbooks. I have worked in care for 18 years but you never know it all and it's always changing.

I've been working at Benoni for 31 years, moving my way up from Housekeeping to Head of Care. I've learned a lot from my colleagues over the years - you're always learning. The young ones coming in have great new ideas. It's a pleasure to come to work. I've never known a place like it.

I worked in community care before I came to Benoni and it's great to work as part of a team and know that there are people here who have my back. The 12-week induction period taught me a lot about how being in a nursing home can be equally as special to people as being in their home.

We also had some fantastic feedback in our recent survey, which was circulated to staff, residents, their loved ones, and the local community.  Here are some highlights:

• When asked how they would describe Benoni to a friend, comments included "Great place to work and lovely environment for the residents" and "It’s a lovely place to work with a fantastic team delivering all aspects of nursing care to residents unable to support or look after themselves at home. The staff in each department genuinely care about providing the best they can for each individual person. It’s like one big family."
• When asked what positive experiences they have had, comments included "Excellent professional development", "Working with kind, funny, caring people", "When I drive home and am very pleased with how I have helped and improved an individual's day, that is my motivation", and "Lots of support from all team departments, always willing to support and welcome new starters. The senior team have been very supportive in helping me rediscover my confidence and develop my clinical skills".
• When asked what makes Benoni unique, many people said "the staff". Residents noted "the care and the fun that we have" and "The staff who are caring, friendly, helpful, will get out of their way to do their best".
