We are so proud to have been nominated, and shortlisted, for multiple awards at the first Proud to Care Awards.

Nominated and shortlisted: "Jen is a driven, compassionate nurse who is a strong advocate for person-centred care and hospital avoidance. Jen has supported the management team to review approaches to infection prevention to promote excellence in the workplace and is a role model for our apprentice student nurses. Jen is currently undertaking further development to support growth across the organisation.

Jen has brought her previous acute illness management skills from her previous role (I.T.U at RCHT) and has been instrumental in sharing these with the team to support confidence in recognising the deteriorating patient. Jen is a patient and enthusiastic mentor, who is an efficient and positive role model for the team."

Nominated: "John has been the Manager and Clinical Matron of Benoni Nursing Home for several years and recently bought the home with one of his deputies, Anne Pickin. He truly is an outstanding leader, dedicated to holistic, person-centred care. No job is too big or too small - he gets stuck in on the floor, and has a fantastic rapport with residents. He champions his team and prioritises their development, with a PA becoming a student nurse, housekeeper becoming head of care, healthcare assistant becoming a nurse, and general assistant becoming a cook."

Nominated and shortlisted: "John has been innovative in his care provision ideas and created a sanctuary for healing and calm. John introduced holistic therapies into the team several years ago employing a Holistic Therapist which then, with the addition of activities coordinators and occupational therapists became the 'Wellbeing Team'. All of the staff have had the opportunity to become trained to perform Reiki.

Johns innovative ideas have enabled a resident to be reenabled and discharged to a new flat, she has flourished in her independence. We are also helping post stroke victims to move limbs which they have not moved for a very long time. Staff are empowered to use their holistic skills as and when they see fit on their shifts. The home is a lovely place, staff and residents all feel like family."

We're looking forward to celebrating this recognition at the awards ceremony on 20 September.

Congrats to Fuzzy who was nominated by both colleagues and residents this month. The patio has never looked so clean and we're very appreciative of the time and care taken to support individual residents, particularly Herta's one-handed crochet contraption.

Why work at Benoni?

We're currently recruiting Healthcare Assistants and a Cook. Rather than give you the usual marketing spiel, we thought we'd ask our staff to tell you why you should work with us.

Karen, Assistant Practitioner: For me, it's the satisfaction and seeing the smiles on residents' faces when you deliver person-centred care; the feeling you've achieved. It really is one big family. You're not looking after a resident, you're looking after your grandparent, and helping them to be as independent as possible.

Kelly, Trainee Assistant Practitioner: It's a lovely team and a wonderfully welcoming home. It can be incredibly rewarding supporting lovely residents - we're like family.

Ann C, Head of Care: I've been here over 30 years and can't imagine not being here. Coming to work is a pleasure. The staff here are great and you couldn't have two nicer people running the place. I've never seen it like this in all the time I've been here. Matron is the kindest person, very supportive.

Becky, Nurse: The Directors have helped so many people to progress and I'm really excited that we're implementing a more holistic approach, with opportunities for residents and staff to receive treatments.

Simon, Deputy Matron: The owners are people who work alongside you on the floor. It's a small home in a small community; very close knit with a family vibe.

Sarah M, Team Lead: It's hard to put into words how much I love working at Benoni. When I left my last job, I was actually planning on not going back into care work, but now I am applying for a nursing degree! This is because Benoni, Matron, and all of the staff have given me that drive and enthusiasm back, reminding me why I'm a carer. I have learned so much in such a short space of time; there are so many training opportunities on a day-to-day basis, and it is a positive place to work. I also, have a really good work-life balance as well, which is great!

Jo, Activities Coordinator: The job satisfaction; it's rewarding and you're forever learning.

Liz, Head of Care: If you want to advance your career in care, you're supported to do so. If you have learning differences, you're heavily supported in order to achieve. Whatever your job description, it's interesting, and gives you a feel-good factor at the end of your day. Plus we have stunning views which, like the job, is a joy to be part of.

Thomas, General Assistant: It's a good working environment, very friendly. There's always an opportunity to develop your career.

Alison, Housekeeping Supervisor: You're made to feel welcome - we're like a close-knit family - residents and staff.

Full and part-time roles are available, with flexible working considered. You can get a very tasty dinner on-site for a discounted rate during your shift, there are attendance and performance bonuses, cute dogs regularly visit the home... What more could you want?
