Congrats to Vicki, our August Employee of the Month. Comments from her colleagues include 'she considers the residents as a big family and cares about them knowing what happened to each one of the members amongst them. She very beautifully introduced a new resident to the others when they first arrived' and 'Vicki is a really hardworking person who looks after the residents and the staff too. Always asks how we all are'. Well done, Vicki!

Congrats to Miriam, our Employee of the Month.
She was nominated for "coming in and being a fantastic help at the BBQ, even though she just got back from New York" and "being a wonderful support for Alison, Jo, and Cathy with their Reiki development". Thank you so much to everyone who came along to our summer BBQ and supported our fundraiser. Last year's summer party raised £400 and Matron said if we raised £500 he would take custard pies to the face. We raised a whopping £778.30 through our raffle, tombola, cake stand, and BBQ. As you can see, we had a long queue of people ready with the custard pies! We are so grateful for all of our donations. We had 75 raffle prizes plus a whole trolley full of tombola goodies. It's so lovely to have such fantastic community support. Thank you. The kitchen team worked their socks off to make sure we all had full, happy tummies. Just look at this spread! The residents loved Duane's musical medleys last year so we had to invite him back again! Definitely a highlight of the afternoon. We can't wait to do it all again next summer!
We're so lucky to have a Holistic Therapist on our team. Earlier this month, Miriam (far left below) led a Reiki Level 1 session for colleagues who were interested in developing their holistic practice and gave us the following feedback:
“Cathy, Alison, and Jo joined me for our first Staff Reiki workshop. They were all very excited, and so was I, as I always feel it is so special to be able to attune anybody into what I know is a birthright. The morning flew by, sharing experiences and queries, as well as Reiki background history, gently savouring the Reiki energies, while the afternoon was dedicated to practicing the newly acquired skills on each other. By the time the day came to an end, the eagerness and enthusiasm experienced by each one of them was really palpable. I could feel that they really wanted to put into practice what they had learned, and start to make a difference to their lives, as well as to the lives of loved ones around them. One of their last questions before we parted was “when can we do Reiki Level 2?” It brings much joy and warmth to my heart to see and feel their motivation, as I know this is a gift of a lifetime which will improve their everyday lives beyond any of their expectations.” Congrats to Karen, our Employee of the Month.

This month we asked residents to nominate a member of staff. They said that 'she's a ray of sunshine. So energetic and helpful.' Well done, Clair! It was so lovely to welcome family and friends into the home yesterday to celebrate the coronation with our residents. The afternoon was filled with games (King Splat was popular with all ages), a quiz, bingo, a crown decorating competition, raffle (as part of our electric wheelchair fundraiser), and incredible food. We'd like to say a massive well done to the kitchen team for such an incredible spread and huge thanks to everyone who donated a raffle prize, including Cape Cornwall Club, Morrisons, and Stones.
We're already looking forward to the next party on 17 June. Congrats to Alison, our Employee of the Month for April.
She was nominated by her colleagues for 'always praising the staff/team on if the rooms are tidy or if they've helped and always being positive', 'for helping in the kitchen without being asked', and 'it's the little things that make all the difference and her attention to detail means so much'. Spring has well and truly arrived at Benoni, with a flurry of festive foliage and beautiful blooms. We were so happy to welcome back Cerisia to Benoni today for the Spring Equinox. She spoke about the day's significance in popular folklore, as well as the trees and the animals most representative of this time of year. Residents made stunning spring wreaths which are now proudly hanging around the home. Cerisia has such a wonderful gentle energy and we're looking forward to seeing her again soon. If you'd like to find out more about Cerisia's work, you can find her on Instagram: www.instagram.com/tatorin_illustrations Many of our residents are fond of the outdoors and are keen gardeners. We're looking to start a gardening club soon and, in the meantime, we've been busy making bird feeders. Our front lounge has huge windows over-looking the garden and we love to watch the birds come and go. There are two robins who like to join us in the mornings and they always bring a smile to the residents' faces. Want to make your own easy-peasy bird feeder? All you need is an old toilet roll tube, peanut butter, some bird seed, and twine (or slide your toilet roll tube over a branch). The activities team has been working with residents on seasonal arts and crafts and the lounge is looking suitably festive. With Easter on the way, we're looking forward to more fun and games, including an egg hunt. We're also looking forward to spending more time outside the home over the coming weeks and months.
Happy spring! |
